YOU guys!! If you are serious about building an apparel brand that people actually want to wear, you NEED to listen up! At Custom T-shirts- Make it your own, we see thousands of designs every single year. Do you know what separates the "just okay" shirts from the "WOW, I need this right now" brands? It isn't just the graphic on the front, it is the tiny details. We are talking about CUSTOM TAGS!
Adding a custom neck label or a hem tag is the BEST way to elevate your brand from "standard" to "PREMIUM" instantly. It tells your customers that you didn't just buy a bulk pack of blanks and throw a logo on them; it shows you put in the work to create something unique. It’s the difference between a $15 giveaway shirt and a $45 boutique masterpiece. And honestly? It is SUPER easy to do when you work with the right team!
Why Custom Tags are a TOTAL Game Changer
Let’s be real for a second. Nothing screams "amateur" louder than a scratchy, giant white factory tag sticking out of the back of a beautiful custom shirt. When YOU take the time to swap that factory tag for your own branded neck label, you are claiming ownership of your product. You are telling the world, "This is MY brand, and I stand behind the quality!"
Here at Custom T-shirts- Make it your own, we specialize in making you look like a PRO. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re already selling out of your garage, adding that custom touch is the most AMAZING investment you can make. It builds trust, it looks professional, and it makes your customers feel like they are wearing something exclusive.

What Exactly Goes on a Custom Tag?
You might be thinking, "Eliot, what do I even put on there?" Great question!! While you want your tag to look cool, it also has to be functional. To look like a real PRO, your tags should generally include:
Your Brand Logo: Keep it clean! This is the first thing people see when they check the size.
The Size: Small, Medium, Large, make it clear and easy to read.
Fabric Composition: Is it 100% Cotton? A Tri-blend? People need to know!
Care Instructions: Tell them how to wash it so your AMAZING design lasts forever. (Pro tip: "Wash cold, tumble dry low" is a classic for a reason!)
Country of Origin: Usually required by law, so don't forget it!
Your Website: A sneaky way to make sure they know where to go when they want to buy another one.

The Different Types of Custom Tags (And Why You Need Them!)
There isn't just one way to tag a shirt! Depending on the "vibe" of your brand, you might want to try a few different styles.
1. Screen Printed Neck Labels
This is our FAVORITE. Instead of a physical piece of fabric sewn in, we screen print your logo and info directly onto the inside of the shirt. It is smooth, it never itches, and it looks incredibly high-end. We use specialized inks that won't show through the back of the shirt, even on lighter colors! If you want your brand to feel modern and comfortable, this is the way to go.
2. Woven Labels
These are the classic "sewn-in" tags. They add a bit of weight and a "tangible" feel to the garment. You can get these sewn into the neck, or even better, on the bottom hem or the sleeve.
3. Hem Tags
Want to stand out from across the room? A hem tag is a small woven label folded over the bottom edge or the sleeve of the shirt. It is a subtle but POWERFUL branding move. When someone sees that little pop of color or your logo on the sleeve, they know they’re looking at quality.

Design Principles: How to Make Your Tags Look EXCELLENT
You don't need to be a world-class designer to make a great tag, but you DO need to follow a few rules to ensure it looks professional.
Establish Hierarchy: What is the most important part? Usually your logo or the size. Use different font weights to make the important stuff stand out.
Keep it Simple: Don't try to cram a whole novel onto a 2-inch tag. Use clean, legible fonts. If the text is too small, it will just turn into a blob during printing.
Contrast is KEY: If you’re printing on a dark shirt, use a light ink. If you’re using a white tag, make sure your text is dark enough to read. We always recommend testing your design at 50% scale on your computer screen. If you can't read it there, you won't be able to read it on the shirt!
Neutral Colors are Your Friends: Black, white, and grey are the BEST choices for tags because they go with everything. You don't want your tag clashing with the actual shirt design!

Where Should You Put Your Tags?
Placement is everything, you guys!!
Inside Collar: The gold standard. Perfect for sizing and care info.
Sleeve: Great for a secondary logo. It’s very visible and looks super sporty!
Bottom Hem: Perfect for woven tags. It adds a "retail-ready" look that customers LOVE.
Waistband: Common for joggers or shorts, but can also work for shirts if you want to be different!
We offer a ton of different options to help you get the exact look you want. You can even check out our packages to see how we can bundle these services for you and save you some serious cash!

Technical Specs: Getting It Right the First Time
We want your order to be PERFECT. To make sure everything goes smoothly, keep these technical tips in mind:
Use Templates: Don't guess the size! Use a standard 2" x 2" or 3" x 3" area for neck prints.
Bleed Zones: If you're doing a woven tag that gets sewn into a seam, make sure your logo isn't too close to the edge. We recommend staying at least 3mm away from the "cut line."
Vector Files: Please, PLEASE send us vector files (AI, EPS, or high-res PDF). This ensures your small text stays crisp and sharp. No one likes a blurry tag!
If you have questions about the technical side, just reach out! We are a small business too, and we pride ourselves on GREAT communication. We want to see you succeed!
